WI Public Safety Professionals:

As you already know, the 75 cent surcharge for 9-1-1 that was established in Motion 85 of the Joint Finance Committee last month has been changed by the JFC to a 75 cent tax (still on the phone bill) labeled for police and fire protection. We have been working with Representatives to get an amendment in place to sunset this in two years and then sunrise our original legislation that would put the 75 cents back in place for 9-1-1 centers. That effort failed today, but there was an amendment that now places that money directly into shared revenue.

While it is a long shot, we are trying to get someone in the Senate to sponsor an amendment that will sunset the 75 cent police and fire protection tax in two years and then create a 75 cent 9-1-1 surcharge to be directed to 9-1-1 centers where it belongs. We need your help. The democrats are in power so we need everyone to contact as many senate democrats as possible (ESPECIALLY those that represent you) and ask them to support this effort.

Gang, this is our last chance to save this. We still have the phone companies, counties association, and many others working on this so please help them out.
